1st Vice President's Report - March 2008

After the busy Christmas/New Year season, January always looks like a long blank month.  Not if you attended the 3rd Annual Burns Supper.

We enjoyed another sell-out event with guest speaker Dr.Walker Kean.

Entertainment was provided by the “Dundas Pipes and Drums”, the “Dundas School of Highland Dance” and to round off the evening we had dancing with music provided by “HiFi’s” disk jockey service.  A “Braw” time was had by all.

Next up for the Branch will be the Honours and Awards Banquet on March 15th – get your tickets early.

If you have any questions or concerns about any event or activity please feel free to contact me at the Branch.

John Murphy – 1st Vice President

1st Vice President's Report - December 2007

Comrades, it has been a couple of months since my last update, the branch executive have been working diligently on our web site - the events calendars and Executive/Committee pages have been updated.  Drop us a line if you have any comments.

Remembrance day has come and gone, what a turnout.  It was fantastic to see so many people, of all ages, out celebrating with our Veterans.  I am sure that everyone in the crowd felt a tug at their heart when our Silver Cross mother, Mrs. Linda Learn, laid her wreath.  Watching our veterans on parade certainly made us proud.  Gerry Belec and his Popply Volunteers had so many hours and sometimes too few volunteers to cover those hours to sell Poppies, but as usual he gets the job done.  Listening to the kids ask their parents what the Poppy is for was a wakeup call.  We need to get the word out and better communicate the history and meaning of the Poppy to all schools.

I am looking forward to our next event, the Veterans Christmas Dinner on Dec. 12th.  We are happy to have the “Dundas Highland Dancers” and the “Dundas Concert Band” to entertain us with dancing, music and carols.

John Murphy - 1st Vice President

We had 32 volunteers show up for the “Fall Work Party”.  This was a big increase from the one in the Spring, so much work was done.  Our thanks go out to all who volunteered.  Remember your patronage at the branch helps to pay for various repairs required to keep things functioning.  Our thanks to those who have donated to the building fund, it sure helps.

Veterans Service Report - December 2007

Things are much the same as last month.  Paperwork for two Vets are still ongoing, one has been completed and has been submitted;  the other one will be completed by the time this Bulletin is out.

Just after the last Executive meeting, I received a call from the daughter of a veteran who is in the hospital and is waiting for placement is a long term care facility.  His request for assistance from Veterans Affairs was denied, so I contacted them in Hamilton and they said they would review his case.  On Friday November 16th, the daughter called and told me that the V.A. are going to assist him.
