1st Vice President's Report - March 2008 After the busy Christmas/New Year season, January always
looks like a long blank month. Not if you attended the 3rd Annual Burns
Supper. We enjoyed another sell-out
event with guest speaker Dr.Walker Kean.
Entertainment was provided by the “Dundas Pipes and Drums”, the “Dundas School of Highland Dance” and to round off the evening we had dancing with music provided by “HiFi’s” disk jockey service. A “Braw” time was had by all. Next up for the Branch will be the Honours and Awards
Banquet on March 15th – get your tickets early. If you have any questions or concerns about any event or activity please feel free to contact me at the Branch. John Murphy – 1st Vice President |

1st Vice President's Report - December 2007 Comrades, it has been a couple of months since my last update, the branch executive have been working diligently on our web site - the events calendars and Executive/Committee pages have been updated. Drop us a line if you have any comments. Remembrance day has come and gone, what a turnout. It was fantastic to see so many people, of all ages, out celebrating with our Veterans. I am sure that everyone in the crowd felt a tug at their heart when our Silver Cross mother, Mrs. Linda Learn, laid her wreath. Watching our veterans on parade certainly made us proud. Gerry Belec and his Popply Volunteers had so many hours and sometimes too few volunteers to cover those hours to sell Poppies, but as usual he gets the job done. Listening to the kids ask their parents what the Poppy is for was a wakeup call. We need to get the word out and better communicate the history and meaning of the Poppy to all schools. I am looking forward to our next event, the Veterans Christmas Dinner on Dec. 12th. We are happy to have the “Dundas Highland Dancers” and the “Dundas Concert Band” to entertain us with dancing, music and carols. John Murphy - 1st Vice President Entertainment Report - December 2007 Karaoke will continue following the fish fry 7:30-12:00pm We hope that lots of you fish fry patrons will stay and enjoy our karaoke entertainment after supper. Karaoke will also be two weeks later on the Friday 8-12:30, karaoke supplied by Klassic Karaoke(Sharon Westlake). On Christmas Eve day come out and enjoy festive entertainment with Jane Wright 104pm, also featuring our Protestant-Catholic choir challenge. New Year’s Eve pot luck with Sharon Westlake will feature both DJ and Karaoke service from 8pm to 1am, get some friends together and come on out. Beginning January 26th, we are going to try a jam session organized by Sharon Westlake. People are invited to come out and perform. Please bring your instruments and singing voices and have some fun (7pm start). I am trying to book local favorite Mike Woods to perform on a Saturday night in the new year, with the help of Pam Jamieson, on of our bar stewards.
Upcoming events booked-to-date 24th Dec. - Christmas Eve - Come out and enjoy the celebrations with Jane Wright 31st Dec. - New Years Eve - Pot Luck Party and dance to the music of Jane Wright and welcome in the New Year at the branch. I would like to thank all thirty five volunteers who attended the “Spring Work Party” a great job was done by all. There have been a lot of behind the scene jobs that have been done by various members. It is the dedication of these people that keep this Legion operating. It is your attendance and support of this Branch that allows us to Maintain the club as it should be. Donations to the “Building Fund” are always gratefully accepted P.S. There are a number of items at the Branch that you can “BORROW” Just ask us! Jim Sherring House Chair |
